CX10 RDP App

Summary

How to use the CX10 Remote Streaming app

Body

Overview

In an effort to reduce overhead, increase security, and ease access to CX10 for remote employees, we have created a streaming version of CX10 that will allow you to run the application even from home without remoting into a LETNET machine.

When launching the app it will prompt you for your LETNET username and password like normal and then prompt you to approve the notification sent to your Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.

Lastly you will see the usual CX10 login screen. Login normally with your CX10 user and password. The app should work the same as always

How to Setup:

Setup:

Simply download the 'CX10.rdp' file attached to this article and double-click it. Yes! It was really that easy!

Note: Your first time logging in might take up to 45 min. After that each subsequent login will be fairly quick!

What is different?:

Now when you launch CX10 it will prompt you for a second form of authentication depending on how yours is setup (Text message, Phone Call, Authenticator App)

What if I use other apps with CX?

Setting up external viewer in CX10

Due to the limited capability of the CX printers, it is sometimes recommended change the Output Viewer to a NotePad utility.

  1. Open up and log in to CX10 using the steps above.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on your username and then on Settings:

  3. In the window that pops up, click on Viewers.  Check the box for "Use an external text viewer" and click on the ellipses ("...") to find the program you would like to output to. Recommended programs and their probably directories are:

    Notepad: C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe

    Notepad++: C:\Program Files\Notepad++\notepad++.exe

  4. Click on OK to save your selection.
  5. Then, when a report or process in CX utilizes the External Viewer, it will use the one on RDS.
When saving items from CX10, DO NOT save it to your desktop!!  This will save it to your desktop on RDS and not your local machine.  Instead, save to your Documents or OneDrive.

Saving Files from CX10 RDP App to your Local Machine:

To save to your documents you will need to navigate to your profile on the fileshare.

Navigate to: \\letnet.net\fs\profiles\facultystaff\documents\<letnet username>\Documents

I suggest dragging this over to your quick access bar for easy access in the future.

When you save in this location it will appear in your documents folder on your local machine

Built in Cognos Reports

Some Cognos Reports have been added to the CX menu.   Accessing these is the same as accessing them through your local machine.

  1. Locate the Cognos Report you want to use.
  2. Log in with your LETU credentials

  3. Enter any parameters if applicable and click finish.
  4. Once you have review the data and confirmed it is what you want, if you want to export it to Excel, click the Run > Run Excel or Run Excel Data:

  5. The report will download to your Downloads directory on RDS, but it will also open an Excel app from RDS on your computer.  From here, you can save to either of the following locations if you want to view/work through the spreadsheet on your local machine:
DO NOT save it to your desktop!!  This will save it to your desktop on RDS and not your local machine.
    • Your LETU OneDrive (Recommended).  It will look something like this:

    • Your Documents. You can access it by going to Browse > Documents.  This will save it the Documents folder that is synced to your machine.
