Disabling pop-up blockers
The problem
A pop-up blocker is a feature, included in most browsers and also in many add-on toolbars and utility programs, that will prevent web pages from popping up additional windows. The objective is to block web sites from making pop-up advertisements in those little windows. However, sometimes this can be a problem. For example, suppose you are attempting to send an email from your @letu email account using the LetNet Webmail page. When you click the button there that says "New message" the page normally will open up a blank email for you to type in, in a separate, smaller window. If your computer has a pop-up blocker working, it can prevent that second window with the blank email from coming up at all. As a result, what happens is you click the new email button and nothing happens.
The solutions
So, what to do about this? Well, there are two possible solutions. First, obviously, you can disable the pop-up blocker altogether, telling it to stand down and deactivate. The only downside to that approach is that with the pop-up blocker permanently turned off, other sites can throw up advertisements in the pop-up windows again. So, the second possible solution, which is generally preferable, is to configure your pop-up block to allow letu.edu sites to make pop-up windows, while still disallowing others. Most pop-up blockers provide a mechanism for you to set up exceptions of this nature.
Internet Explorer and Firefox

Other pop-up blockers
The next most common pop-up blockers are probably those built into commonly-used toolbars such as the Google toolbar or other similar ones. For the Google toolbar, a small icon shows up when a popup has been blocked on the page,
. Clicking the little icon with the red "no" symbol will remove the "no" sign, meaning pop-ups are allow at the page you're currently at. You can then chose to always allow popups from the site.
If you have other toolbar add-ons installed in your browser, they might have a pop-up blocker feature that you'll want to disable or configure. In addition, some anti-virus/internet security software provides pop-up blocking as well, so if you have such software installed, check the documentation for more info.
