Constant Contact: Processing Unsubscribes via Permission Status

If contacts ask that you remove them from your list, you'll need to make sure that they are unsubscribed properly and not just removed. This keeps you in line with current anti-spam laws.

  1. After logging into Constant Contact, click Contacts.
  2. Search or browse for the contact you want to review. For this particular case, I would recommend searching for each email address individually, just in case his name is misspelled.
Note: If you don't get the results you expected, make sure you are viewing your contacts and not your lists. If needed, click "Contacts" in the left hand side to switch your view and try again.
  3.  Click the contact name as it appears in the middle of the screen.
  4.  Click the email address you want to edit.
  5.  Click permission status as it appears above the save button (e.g. "Permission to send", "Implied permission", "Express permission".
  6. Choose "Unsubscribed" from the drop-down.
  7.  Read the confirmation overlay and click Yes, unsubscribe.

The contact has now been unsubscribed and you are protected from accidentally emailing them. The contact will still show in your account, so you don't lose any valuable information, however it will not count towards your billing. You will not be able to resubscribe any unsubscribed contacts manually from within your account, but unsubscribed contacts who want to return to your list can resubscribe themselves using a sign-up form.
