How to upload or record video in Canvas

We encourage instructors to include engaging and informative videos throughout their Canvas courses.

Below are some of the ways to facilitate this process:

Adding video content using the built-in Canvas Media Recorder and the Panopto Recordings plugin.

Instructions:

  1. Open the Rich Content Editor:
    • Within an Announcement, Assignment, Discussion, Page, Quiz, etc., click on Edit to open the Rich Content Editor.

  2. Embed the Video:
    • Click the Apps icon (it looks like a plug) in the Rich Content Editor toolbar.

    • Select Panopto from the list of apps.

    • Select the option you will use: Choose (from your Panopto files), Upload (from your computer) or Record a new video directly. Either launch the Panopto capture software within your browser or use the Panopto for Windows app (requires a previous download and install of the app.)

    • Here is what the Panopto Capture software looks like within the browser:
    • Click on the gear icon to adjust settings.

  3. Save and Publish:
    • Once the video is embedded, click Save & Publish or Save if you already published it.
