Dear Faculty,
I want to offer a gentle reminder regarding the use of Copyleaks and other AI detectors. While these tools can be helpful in flagging questionable content, they are not definitive indicators of academic dishonesty.
Remember to take a holistic approach when evaluating student work and consider the student's writing style and previous work samples. If an AI checker raises concerns, review the flagged content carefully and, when appropriate, engage the student in a conversation to seek clarity. It is better to err on the side of caution to avoid false accusations, which can undermine trust and the student experience.
Also please ensure that your syllabus clearly communicates your expectations regarding the use of tools such as Grammarly, translation services, or other writing aids that utilize generative AI.
