Office365 Integration with Canvas & Grading Student Essays

What features are included in the Office 365 integration?

  1. Authentication: Canvas users can use their Office 365 ID to sign into both Canvas and Office 365.
  2. Link to a document: Instructors can easily create and add course materials, quizzes, and collaborative documents from their OneDrive folders to their course modules.
  3. Assignments: Instructors can create cloud (live) assignments for students to submit without downloading a document. Instructors can grade them in SpeedGrader like any other Canvas assignment.
  4. Collaborations: Students can work together on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents.

Suggested instructions for Instructors to give students on using O365 in their courses to check student progression in their essay development:

  1. The essay must be written in Word using Office 365 and submitted in Canvas through Copyleaks.
  2. Download a copy (File => Create a Copy => Download) and then upload it (in .docx format) to Canvas.
  3. Share the paper with your instructor (granting edit access) through O365.
  4. Include a link to your essay (get the link by using the “share” feature) in the comments on Canvas and in the body of your submitted paper.

Here is a video from Dr. John Barrett explaining how to grade essays using Office365:
